Quick answer
For most construction sites with mains power, the best value in 2026 is a connected GoPro or FTP-capable IP camera feeding a cloud platform, because remote upload checks and an online archive matter more than resolution. Choose Brinno or Afidus if you have no power and don't need remote access, Enlaps Tikee if you need solar and can afford its subscription, and a managed service if you want zero involvement.
Most "best construction camera" lists are written by affiliate sites that have never mounted a camera on a site. This one is written by a company that sells one of the systems below, so read it with that in mind. We say where we are the wrong choice. We have not run the competitor cameras on our own sites; their data comes from manufacturer and reseller pages and independent reviews, last checked in September 2026, and we link every source.

How we compared the cameras
Long-term construction timelapse fails for boring reasons: a dead battery, a full SD card, a stolen camera, a stopped upload nobody noticed. So we weighted five things, in this order:
- Does anyone find out when it stops? Remote upload check and alerting.
- Where do the images live? SD card only, or an online archive you can open from the office.
- Power reality. Mains, batteries or solar, and how long each really lasts on a site.
- Total cost over 12 months, including the subscription, not the sticker price.
- Image quality and reuse of the hardware after the project.
Resolution is last on purpose. A 4K camera that silently stopped in week six is worth less than a 1080p camera that uploaded every day.

1. TimelapseRobot Complete Setup (GoPro HERO 13 + TLR-Bridge)
This is our system, so here is the honest version.
What it is: a GoPro HERO 13 in a weatherproof housing with our TLR-Bridge controller, LTE antenna and continuous-power cabling, pre-paired so it starts capturing and uploading when you plug it in. The GoPro is unmodified. When the project ends you take it out and use it as a normal action camera. Full details on the Complete Setup product page.
What TLR Cloud does: every image lands in an online timeline. You see the latest frame, get an alert if uploads stop, and render the finished timelapse in one click. The free plan covers upload, archive and one render a month. Paid plans at €29 or €49 per camera per month add the password-protected client share page, storage, more renders, AI frame selection and GDPR blurring. The system also runs fully offline to the SD card or an optional plug-in SSD if you never want a cloud account.
Where it is the wrong choice: it needs mains power. We do not sell a battery or solar option. If your site has no power at the camera position, buy Brinno or Tikee instead. It is also a single wide-angle view, not a panorama.

2. Brinno BCC5000
Brinno's current flagship for construction, released in mid-2025. 4K stills from a Sony Starvis 2 sensor, HDR, IP65 housing, a rechargeable battery pack rated around six months with the extended slots, plus Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth for the Brinno app and remote access through Brinno Cloud in the browser.
Strengths: the first Brinno you can actually check remotely. Good image quality, though still below the GoPro HERO 13 in our system. Battery operation.
Limits: price. At €1,640 to €1,900 in Germany it costs more than a Tikee body and almost twice our complete system. Connectivity depends on Wi‑Fi at the site or a hotspot; there is no built-in LTE. Brinno Cloud storage limits and paid tiers were not published when we checked. The six-month battery figure assumes long intervals.
Pick it if: you have no mains power but do have site Wi‑Fi, want 4K, and the budget allows it.

3. Brinno BCC2000 Plus
The camera most European buyers mean when they say "Brinno". 1080p, IPX5 housing, industrial clamp, 16 AA cells rated up to 328 days at a five-minute interval. The "Plus" adds a 10 m cable so you can plug a Windows laptop in on site to change settings and pull files. Around €689 in Germany.
Strengths: proven, genuinely runs for months on batteries. Nothing to subscribe to.
Limits: it is not connected to the internet at all. You find out the camera stopped when you visit the site. Images exist only on the SD card until you copy them, so theft or damage means losing the project. 1080p is fine for a video, thin for stills. And at €689 it is no longer the bargain it once was; it costs two thirds of a fully connected system.
Pick it if: the site has no power, nobody needs to check progress remotely, and you accept walking to the camera.

4. Enlaps Tikee 3 Pro+
The premium off-grid option. Two lenses stitched to a 6K panorama, built-in 24,000 mAh battery topped up by an integrated solar panel, IP66, 4G or Wi‑Fi upload to the myTikee platform.
Strengths: solar autonomy that works in Europe for most of the year, the widest view of any camera here, polished software.
Limits: price. The camera alone is around €1,500 and a usable kit around €2,100. The myTikee subscription is required for cloud features and runs $69, $179 or $239 per camera per month depending on tier, one subscription per camera. Forwarding images to your own FTP server is only available inside a paid plan, so you cannot use the camera with a third-party platform to avoid the fee.
Pick it if: no power, you want a panorama, and the monthly fee fits the project budget. Over 12 months a single Tikee with the entry subscription costs roughly €2,900 to €3,500.

5. Afidus ATL-200S
A compact 1080p timelapse camera with a Sony sensor, 110° lens, IP65 rating and four AA cells. Afidus quotes 25 days at a one-minute interval up to 80 days at 30 minutes. Around $389 to $449.
Strengths: cheapest serious option with a proper lens and manual focus. Tiny, easy to hide.
Limits: the app only works over the camera's own Wi‑Fi hotspot, so you must be standing next to it. No internet connectivity, same blind-spot problem as the BCC2000. Battery life at construction-friendly intervals is weeks, not months.
Pick it if: the project is short, the budget is small, and a site visit every few weeks is fine.

6. Technaxx TX-164
The hardware-store choice in the German-speaking market. 1080p, twelve AA cells for up to six months, night LEDs, four capture modes. Around €122 to €179.
Strengths: price. For a private house build watched by the owner, it does the job.
Limits: consumer build, no weather housing beyond the body, no connectivity, image quality a step below the others.
Pick it if: you are documenting your own home and nobody else will ever need the footage.

7. Managed services: TrueLook, Evercam, 1000eyes
Not a camera you buy but a service you rent. The vendor installs a 4K camera, runs the platform, produces the film. TrueLook and Evercam dominate the US and UK, 1000eyes the German market. Pricing is on request and typically a monthly fee per camera for the length of the project.
Strengths: you own no hardware and no problem. Contractual uptime.
Limits: cost over a multi-year project, no hardware to reuse, lock-in to their platform.
Pick it if: the timelapse is a line item in a large project budget and nobody in-house should touch it.
The platform question: you may not need a new camera at all
Here is the part the affiliate lists miss. Most of the cameras above are judged on their own cloud, or their lack of one. But any camera that can upload images over FTP can feed an independent platform instead.
TLR Cloud accepts FTP uploads from any camera. That means a Reolink, Hikvision, Dahua or Axis IP camera you already own becomes a connected construction timelapse with online archive, upload alerts and one-click rendering, on the free plan, with no new hardware. Two honest caveats. Brinno and Afidus cameras do not upload over FTP, so they cannot be connected this way. And Enlaps only forwards to FTP from inside a paid myTikee plan, so a Tikee cannot be used to bypass its own subscription.

- No power, no need for remote access: Brinno BCC2000 Plus.
- No power, want app access and 4K, have site Wi‑Fi and budget: Brinno BCC5000.

- Yes, if it can upload images over FTP. Reolink, Hikvision, Dahua and Axis cameras can send scheduled snapshots to TLR Cloud, where they become an online archive with upload alerts and a rendered timelapse. This is usually the cheapest connected setup.
- Is 4K necessary for construction time lapse?
- Rarely. Most finished timelapse films are delivered in 1080p or 4K, and stills from a 1080p camera are enough for progress checks. Reliability of capture and upload affects the result more than resolution.
