Camera settings in TLR-Cloud

What the items in your camera's Setup tab do: rotating images, Area Blur, AI blurring, email notifications, GoPro settings and unlinking a camera. Plus why FTP cameras have fewer settings.

In TLR-Cloud, every camera has the tabs Dashboard, Gallery, Setup, Download and Share. You'll find the camera's settings in the Setup tab. This article uses the menu names exactly as they appear in the app.

Which items you can use depends on the camera. Some apply to every camera, some only to a GoPro with a TLR-Bridge.

The Setup menu at a glance#

  • Shootplan: the capture schedule. GoPro only.
  • Camera Settings: settings of the GoPro. GoPro only.
  • Manual Trigger: take a photo by hand. GoPro only.
  • Image Forwarding: forward your images.
  • Image Manipulation: rotate images, Area Blur and AI blurring. Every camera.
  • Email Notifications: emails such as the daily upload check.
  • Subscription & Storage: the camera's plan and storage.
  • General Camera Settings: name and description, unlink the camera. Every camera.

For every camera#

General Camera Settings: name and description#

  • Camera Name: the camera's name. This field is required.
  • Description (optional): a description, if you want one.

Save with Save Camera.

Unlink Camera removes the camera from your account. It's meant for when you replace one camera with another.

  • After that, the camera can no longer be controlled remotely and no more uploads arrive.
  • Capture schedules and images stay saved.
  • You can reactivate the camera with a new device.

If you connect the camera to another project after unlinking it, it can take up to 60 minutes before new photos can be uploaded.

Image Manipulation: rotate and blur#

Save every setting in this section with Save Settings. The settings apply to the images that arrive from then on.

Rotate: turn your images. Switch on Rotate and choose 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees under Rotate By Degrees. The default is 0. This helps when the camera is mounted sideways or upside down.

Area Blur: blur fixed areas. Area Blur uses a mask to blur fixed areas such as a neighbour's window or a street. Upload the mask under Mask File. Under Degree, choose the intensity: Low, Medium, High or Maximum. The default is Low. Area Blur is included in every plan, including Free. Whatever Area Blur hides stays hidden in the rendered video, on the sharing page (called Landing Page in the app) and in the embedded image. Step by step: set up Area Blur.

AI Person Blur and AI Vehicle Blur: AI blurring (Business only). AI blurring finds people and vehicles in every new image and blurs them automatically. You switch the two on separately. For each one, choose the intensity: High, Medium or Low. The default is High. For AI Vehicle Blur, you also pick the vehicle types one by one: Car, Bicycle, Truck, Motorcycle and Bus. All five are selected by default. More on this: blurring on construction sites.

Email Notifications#

This is where you set up the camera's emails:

  • the daily upload check at a time you set yourself, with an email if images are missing. You also choose the days of the week and the minimum number of images.
  • the image of the day by email.
  • for a smartphone used as a camera, also a battery warning and an offline notification.

With Professional and Business, notifications can go to several email addresses. Our guide to remote monitoring of construction cameras explains how the upload check works.

GoPro only: settings through the TLR-Bridge#

TLR-Cloud controls a GoPro through the TLR-Bridge. That's why GoPro cameras have three extra menu items.

Camera Settings#

  • Power off between Shots (on/off): turns the GoPro off between shots.
  • Delete from GoPro (on/off): sets whether photos are deleted on the GoPro.
  • Upload Mode: Instant uploads each photo right after it's taken. None turns off automatic uploads.
  • Upload Frequency: how often photos are uploaded. 1 uploads every photo, 2 every second photo, 4 every fourth, and so on.

Save with Save Settings.

Shootplan and Manual Trigger#

Under Shootplan, you set the GoPro's capture schedule. Manual Trigger takes a photo by hand. You'll find more on the shootplan in the TLR-Bridge manual.

Why FTP cameras have no Camera Settings#

An FTP camera, for example an IP camera, sends its images to TLR-Cloud by FTP on its own. TLR-Cloud doesn't access the camera directly. That's why FTP cameras have no Camera Settings, no Shootplan and no Manual Trigger. You set the capture interval and the FTP upload in the camera itself.

Image Manipulation and General Camera Settings apply to FTP cameras too. How to connect an IP camera: connect your own IP camera to TLR-Cloud.

Other menu items#

  • Image Forwarding: on Professional and Business, you can automatically forward every incoming photo to an FTP server or send a copy to your Dropbox.
  • Subscription & Storage: the camera's plan and storage. Every camera has its own storage: 2 GB on Free, 150 GB on Professional, 250 GB on Business. All plans compared: pricing.
